Russian Foreign Ministry on the Situation Surrounding the Lachin Corridor

Ivan Nechaev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated during a press briefing that the situation surrounding the Lachin corridor must be resolved based on the sixth point of the trilateral statement made by the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020.

“The sixth point of the trilateral statement stipulates that a program for constructing a new traffic route along the Lachin corridor will be determined by the parties' agreement over the next three years, ensuring a connection between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia, with the redeployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent to protect this route,” he said.

Nechaev noted that the situation in the region remains a focus of Russia's attention and recalled that on August 4, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the escalation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, calling on both countries to exercise restraint and maintain the ceasefire.

The Russian Foreign Ministry representative emphasized that Russia reaffirms the necessity of resolving all issues in accordance with the statements made by the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan on November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, and November 26, 2021.
