Criminal Proceedings Initiated in Connection with Soldier's Death: Details

The Military Investigative Main Department of the Armenian Investigative Committee is conducting necessary measures to clarify all circumstances surrounding the death of soldier Erik Armen Garsayan, as reported by the Investigative Committee.

According to preliminary information, a report was received regarding an alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound on August 9, 2022. As per the information received, Erik Armen Garsayan, a conscript private in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest area from a service-issued AKM type assault rifle while in a firing position. On the same day, he was transferred to a medical center, where biological death was recorded.

Considering the legal grounds and the basis for initiating criminal proceedings under Article 522, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, the Military Investigative Main Department has initiated criminal proceedings. An investigative team has been dispatched to the scene, and urgent and necessary investigative and procedural actions are underway.
