Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant Shelled: Who Struck, Russia or Ukraine?

On the night of August 6-7, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shelled the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant using the "Uragan" multiple rocket launcher system. This was reported by RIA, citing city authorities. It is noted that missile fragments fired toward the nuclear plant nearly hit the main power unit.

Recall that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has been under Russian control for more than three months, but the Ukrainian side claims that Russian forces are shelling the area of the plant from nearby villages to lay the blame for the threat of a nuclear disaster on Ukraine.

Recently, the Director-General of the IAEA appealed to both the Russian and Ukrainian sides to allow the organization’s inspectors to visit the power plant.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the situation around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in a video address last night, stating that the shelling of the plant area by Russian forces is a "terrorist act."

“Today, the occupiers have created another extremely risky situation for all of Europe. The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has been shelled twice in one day. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, and any shelling of this facility is an outright brazen crime, a terrorist act,” he said.
