The Damages Caused by Electric Scooters Will Be Discussed in the National Assembly. Ruling Party MPs Wake from Deep Slumber. 'Zhoghovurd'
'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports that ruling party MPs have woken from a deep slumber and realized that citizens riding electric scooters recklessly on the streets and sidewalks sometimes endanger the lives of other citizens and cause accidents involving both people and vehicles. Recently, it was reported that nearly 50 citizens injured by electric scooters have been hospitalized with varying degrees of bodily injuries.
If this concern has prompted MPs Vilen Gabrielyan and Zaruhy Batoyan from the 'Civil Contract' faction of the National Assembly to organize a discussion about the damages caused by electric scooters, then let us thank God that the health of citizens at least worries them.
Fact is, officials who naively expressed their opinions about electric scooters have no right to adopt an innocent look. Why? Because these scooters were brought to Armenia only recently, and if the responsible authorities—the police, the Yerevan city hall, and the Ministry of Economy—had not given the appropriate permissions for their use, 'battery-powered scooters' would not have invaded the streets of Yerevan. Thus, the MPs' discussion is overdue, and their surprise is unwarranted.
Any phenomenon should initially be discussed, risks calculated, and only then permissions granted and a green light given. Of course, it is not ruled out that officials may once again blame their predecessors, suggesting that they deliberately throw themselves under electric scooters to sabotage (God has given them a 'revolutionary' imagination, and has not spared it). But the fact is that neither the previous government imported these scooters nor, moreover, presented any claims to gain power through them. You are the ones who allowed this; the excuses are inappropriate and unacceptable.
