It is noteworthy that this visit by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives could be the first of its kind by an American political figure to Taiwan in the last 25 years. Beijing has repeatedly warned the U.S. side that if the visit occurs, it will not go unanswered, and China will take severe measures. Washington believes that Beijing may even conduct missile launches or military exercises.
