US Embassy Warns American Citizens in Armenia to Avoid Certain Areas in Yerevan
The US Embassy in Armenia has issued an urgent warning to American citizens currently in the country, advising them to avoid certain areas following reports of explosive devices being planted in those locations.
The urgent electronic message sent to American citizens pertains to the following areas: Zvartnots International Airport, all metro stations in Yerevan, the City Hall of Yerevan, and the National Assembly of Armenia.
According to the Embassy's statement, local authorities are currently investigating threats regarding explosives at Zvartnots Airport, all metro stations, the City Hall, and the National Assembly.
Actions that should be taken include:
- Monitoring local news
- Avoiding crowded places
- Informing friends and family about your safety
- Being aware of your surroundings
Earlier, Tatyana Khachatryan, the spokesperson for Yerevan's Karen Demirchyan Metro, reported that at 6:59 PM on August 2, a call was received at the National Crisis Management Center regarding the presence of explosive devices at metro stations, and passenger transport via the metro has been temporarily suspended.
