Neymar Faces Two Years in Prison
French champions PSG and Brazilian national team forward Neymar, along with his father and former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu, have been charged in a corruption case, as reported by Spanish outlet El Pais. The trial is set to begin on October 17 in Barcelona.
The lawsuit was filed by Brazilian company DIS, which owned 40% of Neymar's transfer rights while he played for Santos in Brazil. DIS claims that Neymar, his family, and Barcelona's management committed fraud during the transfer and is seeking €150 million in compensation.
DIS and the prosecution assert that Neymar and his father signed two contracts with Barcelona in 2011, ignoring the fact that the player’s transfer rights already belonged to Santos. The prosecution is demanding a two-year prison sentence and a €10 million fine for Neymar.
