Armenian Wrestlers Win 5 Medals

Armenia's freestyle and Greco-Roman style young wrestlers are participating in the European Championship for under 15s taking place in Zagreb. The freestyle wrestlers were the first to compete, winning 5 medals at the European Championship.

Three representatives from Armenia, 44 kg wrestler Gagik Ghazaryan, 57 kg wrestler Hayk Avanesyan, and 75 kg wrestler Sahak Hovhannisyan, reached the second step of the podium, becoming silver medalists. Ghazaryan lost in the final with a score of 5:10 to Ukrainian Ivan Zaliskoy, Avanesyan lost 4:6 to Illya Shketik (Ukraine), while Hovhannisyan was defeated 0:10 by Georgian Luka Kvatashidze.

Additionally, two representatives from Armenia's youth team won bronze medals. Armen Papikyan (38 kg) secured a decisive 10:0 victory against Bulgarian Aleksandar Delchev in the bronze match, while Tigran Akhtoyan (48 kg) won 4:0 against Austrian Kristikan Kikelin in his decisive match.

Other members of Armenia's freestyle youth team who traveled to the competition include Avetik Tutkhalyan (41 kg), Vrej Harutyunyan (44 kg), Arsen Hovhunts (48 kg), Davit Davtyan (52 kg), Narek Hovhannisyan (62 kg), Vahe Saghyan (68 kg), and Andranik Jagheryan (85 kg).

Four wrestlers also represented Armenia's Greco-Roman style under-15 national team, with one of them, 41 kg wrestler Yuri Mkhitaryan, advancing to the finals after a willful victory over an Azerbaijani athlete in the semifinals. Mkhitaryan will compete against another Azerbaijani representative in the finals.

The other wrestlers included in the Armenian squad, Davit Sargsyan (52 kg), Samvel Terteryan (62 kg), and Artur Amoyan (68 kg), also progressed to the semifinals with confident victories but faced tough battles and will fight for bronze medals.
