The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan caused two accidents while under the influence of alcohol last Sunday, on the day of Vardavar, first in Dilijan and then on the road to Sevan. However, he continues to hold his position.

“Zhoghovurd” contacted the Police's Public Relations and Information Department to understand what legal violations were recorded in the governor's actions and what actions have been taken. In response, the police informed us that they do not provide information about individuals.

According to the information we received, no criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the governor’s actions, meaning he will not face criminal liability. Instead, our sources indicate that an administrative violation process has been initiated concerning Karen Sargsyan, which would lead to the revocation of his driving license.

The newspaper attempted to directly clarify with Governor Karen Sargsyan whether he will lose his driving license, but he persistently did not respond to our calls or messages. It is noteworthy that if the process of revoking his driving license begins, it means it has been confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol while driving. In this case, he should at least resign for driving under the influence and causing an accident.

This might have been the case in the past when opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan would demand Karen Sargsyan's resignation. It is worth recalling that shortly after the revolution, the prime minister's family and the government were still showing off how they uphold the law. In 2020, Anna Hakobyan was fined for allowing her underage daughter to take the wheel in a summer house area.

Two years later, the situation has changed, and now Governor Karen Sargsyan might face punishment solely through the revocation of his driving license, yet he will likely continue to hold his office, and his driving license may be returned shortly after.
