Mobility in 5-Year-Old's Fingers Restored

Another complex surgery has been performed by pediatric orthopedic traumatologist Ruben Hakobyan at the Vanadzor Medical Center. A 5-year-old boy with a pathology known as 'syndactyly' was admitted to the medical facility.

Syndactyly is a congenital malformation of the fingers or toes, where two or more fingers are partially or completely fused together, leading to the inter-digital space being partially or entirely closed.

According to pediatric orthopedic traumatologist Ruben Hakobyan, the most important task was to ensure that not only were the fingers separated correctly from one another but also to prevent the development of scar contracture in the future, allowing the fingers to function fully later on.

The surgery lasted 2.5 hours and involved a technique called 'z-plasty,' which was successfully completed, thanks to the efforts of the entire medical center and Dr. Ruben Hakobyan. The child's skin has fully recovered without any inflammatory or other complications during or after the surgery.

The complete mobility of the fingers has been restored, and the child is now able to freely move his fingers, open, close, and play. The postoperative period lasted 14 days, after which the child was discharged from the hospital.
