Armenia's National Security Service on Mine Clearance Activities at the Turkish Border
The National Security Service of Armenia has commented on the mine clearance activities conducted by Turkish authorities in recent days, following an inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
"The mine clearance works are being carried out by the DLC organization under the auspices of the UN in the Turkish territory adjacent to the state border between Armenia and Turkey (located across from the Amasia region in Shirak Province)," the response states.
In mid-July, Turkish media reported that an Israeli company was engaged in the demining of the Armenia-Turkey border. It was also noted that the preparation for the opening of the "Doğukapı" (Ahuryan from the Armenian side) and "Alijhan" (Margara from the Armenian side) border checkpoints in Turkey's eastern province of Kars was discussed in negotiations between representatives of Armenia and Turkey. This is being done for citizens of third countries, as agreed upon in early July.
On July 25, Turkish media also reported that one person was injured due to the explosion of a mine.
