Aghvan Hovsepian Diagnosed with Severe Diabetes: Incompatible with Detention
According to the 'Aravot' newspaper, a forensic medical examination has been appointed in the case of Aghvan Hovsepian, the former Prosecutor General and former head of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, who is accused of illegal participation in business activities, receiving especially large bribes, and money laundering.
The court decided on July 7 to grant the motion of the defense team. Hovsepian is currently in detention, but his defense team believes that his health condition is incompatible with this measure of restraint. Previously, the court had rejected the motion to release Hovsepian from detention based on health grounds.
Now, several questions have been posed for the forensic examination, including what diseases Aghvan Hovsepian has had and currently has, whether his health condition has experienced a negative dynamic from September 8, 2021, to the present, and if so, what kind of medical assistance he requires, to what extent, under what conditions, and in which medical institutions.
The examination must also determine whether Hovsepian's illnesses obstruct the application of detention and punishment in penitentiary institutions, whether the diagnosis given to him is correct, whether his diseases are causally linked to the surgery he underwent, and whether the complications that began after the surgery are transient.
Details can be found in today's issue of the 'Aravot' newspaper.
