Why the Ministry of Defense Delegation Visited India: Details from India Narrative

The India Narrative media outlet has presented some details regarding the June visit of the Armenian Ministry of Defense delegation to India.

According to the publication, the delegation arrived with a planned procurement list, although little is known about its contents. However, it has been confirmed that drones were prominently featured on the list.

It is mentioned that this is not the first time Armenia has shown interest in Indian military technology. In 2020, the republic signed a deal worth $40 million with India for the supply of four SWATHI artillery locating radars produced in India.

Since then, Armenia's defense needs have seen a geometric increase. “The Nagorno-Karabakh war forced us to reassess our defense needs,” the website quotes an Armenian official who requested anonymity.

In addition, it is noted that India sees Armenia not only as a friend but also as a good counterbalance to Turkey, whose President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has been particularly hawkish regarding the Kashmir issue.

The publication emphasizes Armenia's strategic position and notes that the country could become a strategically important partner for India in defense and investment trade.
