Mourning in Iraq: Casualties from Turkish Shelling
The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa Al-Kadhimi, has declared July 21 a national day of mourning in memory of those killed in Turkish artillery shelling in the northern part of the country. According to the Armenian Press Agency, this was reported by INA news agency, citing a government announcement.
“Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi has declared a day of mourning on July 21 for the victims of the brutal bombing by Turkish forces at one of the tourist resorts in the Duhok province,” the statement reads.
On July 20, the SHAFAQ News portal reported that as a result of the Turkish artillery fire on a tourist facility in Duhok province (part of Iraqi Kurdistan), seven people were killed and another 22 were injured. The press service of the republic's security agencies reported that eight people had died and 23 were injured.
The Iraqi National Security Council has decided to summon the chargé d'affaires from Ankara for consultations. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to prepare a dossier regarding Turkey's violations of Arab sovereignty and to file a complaint with the UN Security Council. Additionally, the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad is to be summoned to lodge a formal protest, as reported by TASS.
