State of Emergency Declared in Sri Lanka
A state of emergency has been declared in Sri Lanka. This was announced by the acting president of the country, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Wickremesinghe's decree states that the emergency has been imposed for the "protection of public security, maintenance of public order, and ensuring necessary supplies and services for the public's life.
It is noteworthy that on July 9, a group of protesters stormed the presidential palace of Sri Lanka. Immediately after that, the head of state fled the country by airplane and traveled to the Maldives. Protesters also set fire to the residence of Sri Lanka's Prime Minister.
