Man Threatening with Grenade in Supermarket Neutralized: Police Provide Details

On July 16, at 10 PM, the police of the Ararat region received a report about a man with a grenade threatening to detonate himself outside a supermarket on Tigran Mets Street in the city of Ashtarak. The police stated that their rapid response unit identified the man as a 37-year-old resident of Byurakan.

The man was threatening to blow himself up if his child, who lives with his ex-wife, was not returned to him. Thanks to the explanatory work carried out by the head of the Ashtarak police station, Sergey Martirosyan, the man voluntarily entered the head's vehicle and was transported to the police station.

Explanatory work continued at the station, with the participation of Tigran Karapetyan, the head of the Aragatsotn regional police department. As a result, the grenade was neutralized by securing a wire instead of the detonator pin. This action eliminated the threat to the lives and health of those present.

The 37-year-old man has been arrested and presented to the investigation body, where a criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the circumstances.
