Gazprom Declares Force Majeure on Gas Deliveries to Europe: Reuters

Gazprom has informed at least one major European buyer that it will not be able to fulfill its supply obligations starting July 14 due to "extraordinary" circumstances beyond its control, according to Reuters, citing a company letter.

The agency reports that the document pertains to supplies through the Nord Stream gas pipeline to Germany.

The publication notes that such a force majeure could lead to a new escalation of tensions between Russia and the West amid the situation in Ukraine.

The European Union, as Reuters recalls, plans to phase out the use of Russian gas by 2027, but currently cannot withdraw from it.
