Attack on Patrol Officers While Regulating Traffic at Busy Intersection in Nubarashen

SHAMSHYAN.com reports that two citizens have been arrested as part of a criminal investigation initiated by the Investigative Committee of Armenia in the Erbenuni and Nubarashen administrative districts.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, on July 16 at around 12:10 PM, a junior officer of the patrol service known as M.M., along with patrol officer G.M., were on duty in the Nubarashen administrative region.

At that moment, they noticed that traffic was congested at the intersection of 7th and 9th streets of Nubarashen and decided to regulate the flow of vehicles.

During this time, a citizen began to argue with the patrol officers, refusing to comply with their legal requests and hurling insults at them.

The officers repeatedly urged the citizen to show respect towards the community and themselves, but the individual continued to hurl insults. In an attempt to calm the situation, the officers used tear gas as prescribed by law.

At that moment, a citizen in military uniform intervened in the altercation, attacking officer M.M. and striking him multiple times on various parts of his body, causing bodily harm.

According to G. Shamshyan, having no other option, and as the tear gas did not neutralize the threat, M.M. fired a warning shot into the air from his registered firearm and, together with additional forces that had arrived at the scene, incapacitated and detained the citizen in military uniform.

It was clarified on the scene that he was 19-year-old A.O. from the Gegharkunik region. The second individual arrested, also from Gegharkunik, is 27-year-old T.K.

A.O. and T.K. were presented to the Investigative Division of the Erebuni and Nubarashen districts, where they were arrested by the investigator's decision.
