Who is the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces? Noteworthy details.

According to the newspaper "Hraparak," it was announced yesterday that Edward Asryan has been appointed as the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Prior to this, he held the position of Deputy Chief of the General Staff, and earlier he served as the head of the operational department of the operational headquarters.

Asryan is one of the generals who, after the 44-day war, demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in February 2021, stating that "the Prime Minister and the government are no longer capable of making adequate decisions for the Armenian people in this crisis and fateful situation." However, a few months later, he changed his stance significantly, attempting to justify the enemy's positioning in the area of the Black Lake.

"The 1,000 servicemen indicated by the enemy do not pose a serious problem in our territory," he stated during the days when Azerbaijanis were capturing Armenian soldiers from the Black Lake area.

In September 2021, Edward Asryan was dismissed from his position as the head of the operational department of the General Staff because he was seen conversing for 10 minutes with former Defense Minister, leader of the 'Hayastan' faction, Seyran Ohanyan, during which he addressed Ohanyan as 'Mr. General.' This did not sit well, particularly with the Chairman of the National Assembly's Defense and Security Committee, Andranik Kocharyan.
