KPP Will Not Make a Decision on Opposition; There is a Radical Wing in the Faction

The newspaper "Hraparak" writes: Yesterday, an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly Council was held in accordance with the law, and the agenda was about depriving 33 opposition deputies of their mandates. The KPP majority was supposed to decide whether to appeal to the Constitutional Court regarding the deprivation of the mandates of the opposition or not.

The law requires that the deputies whose issues are to be discussed must be present at the meeting. If they do not attend, the meeting is postponed for a week, and then discussed again in their absence. The opposition did not attend the meeting yesterday, so this issue will be discussed a week later.

However, our sources in the government say that KPP will likely not make a decision on the opposition issue, despite the existence of a radical wing in the faction calling for at least 10-15 deputies to be deprived of their mandates.

The fact is that recently, the KPP faction in the National Assembly discussed the issues of the opposition's removal from office and deprivation of mandates. They were united on the issue of depriving them of their positions, but no decision was made on the matter of mandates. The majority of the faction opposed the process of depriving mandates, considering that, firstly, this move would not be well-received by international organizations regarding a government that has declared itself a bastion of the people. Secondly, they had doubts whether the Constitutional Court would rule that the opposition was engaged in political activities outside the parliament, and thus would regard it as political boycott and reject their application.

Essentially, the discussion revolves around whether the National Assembly is an institution or a political body. If it is an institution, then employees absent from work can be dismissed. If it is a political body, then boycotting is one of the most accepted forms of political struggle.
