Soldier Sustains Deadly Gunshot Wound from His Own Weapon at Combat Position: Investigative Committee Provides Details
The Armenian Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case following the death of a conscript soldier.
“The Eighth Garrison Investigative Division of the Military Investigative Main Department of the RA Investigative Committee is conducting investigative and procedural actions to clarify the circumstances of the death of conscript soldier Arsen Armeni Manukyan. Preliminary information indicates that on July 14, 2022, at approximately 10:25, during the performance of a lookout duty at a combat position, conscript soldier Private Arsen Armeni Manukyan inflicted a fatal gunshot wound upon himself with his assigned AKM-type automatic rifle,” the Investigative Committee's statement reads.
A criminal case has been opened under the third part of Article 522 of the RA Criminal Code, and an investigative group has been formed. Necessary and urgent measures are being taken to ensure an objective and comprehensive investigation of the incident. The preliminary investigation continues,” the statement added.
