Supermoon Visible Today

The supermoon, referred to by astronomers as a full moon, occurs on days when the distance between Earth and the Moon decreases to a minimum within a year. This phenomenon is expected to take place today.

"The Moon will approach Earth at a distance of 357,263 kilometers at 13:09 Yerevan time, marking the closest distance it has been since 2022. The visible diameter of the Moon will be 33 minutes and 27 seconds. On this day, two significant astronomical events will coincide: this is perigee and the full moon," stated representatives from the planetarium.

Astronomers explained that perigee is the point in the Moon's orbit where it comes closest to Earth. In 2022, this will occur on July 13 at 13:09 Yerevan time, with a distance of only 357,000 kilometers from the planet to its satellite. The full moon will be visible at 22:38 Yerevan time.
