Azerbaijani Writer Mocks Authorities

Against the backdrop of recent news about the rise in gasoline prices in Azerbaijan, local writer Karamat Buyukcholu made a sarcastic post on Facebook: “Raise the price of gasoline so that veterans cannot self-immolate.”

Buyukcholu was clearly referring to a recent incident in the Sabirabad region, where veteran Elvin Jafarov committed an act of self-immolation and later died in a burn unit. The cause of this act was the local authorities' neglect of his social issues.
