World-renowned director Jafar Panahi arrested in Iran
Jafar Panahi, a globally acclaimed director, award-winning filmmaker, and leader of the Iranian opposition, has been arrested in Tehran. According to the Mehr News Agency, he was taken into custody at the Iranian prosecutor's office, where he had gone to testify in the case of another director, Mohammad Rasulof, who had previously been arrested.
Panahi has become the third filmmaker to be arrested in the country over the past week. The 62-year-old Jafar Panahi is one of Iran's most famous directors and has received numerous awards for his films, which critique contemporary Iran.
