‘They Were Not Random People’: What Saghatelyan Discussed in the European Parliament
Member of Parliament from the ‘Armenia’ faction, Ishkhan Saghatelyan, revealed in a meeting with journalists today that the main agenda in all discussions at the European Parliament was Artsakh, the process of negotiations regarding Artsakh, and the security of Armenia.
Saghatelyan raised the issue of Armenian prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan during all meetings. “In international organizations, particularly in the European Council, the interests of Armenia and Artsakh are not adequately represented, and it became evident during these meetings that Armenia's parliamentary diplomacy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not effectively representing and protecting the interests of Armenia, Artsakh, and the Armenian people,” Saghatelyan said.
The MP emphasized that there is no international demand to lower the stakes regarding the status of Artsakh, even though Armenian authorities claim otherwise. “All the people I met were not random people; they were officials who shape opinions and stances on Armenian issues. There is no request to clearly and explicitly lower the stakes,” he stated.
The legislator noted that there is a demand for peace. He, Saghatelyan, mentioned that he does not oppose the peace agenda, but peace cannot come at the expense of dispossession. “We have stated that forced peace cannot bring stability to the region. This reasoning was very understandable to them,” the opposition MP said.
