Sri Lankan President Resigns

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has announced his resignation, as reported by the country's Prime Minister's Office.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa informed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he is stepping down from his position, in accordance with earlier statements, according to Reuters.

Earlier, Sri Lanka's parliamentary speaker, Karu Jayasuriya, had announced that the president would resign on July 13 amid ongoing protests.
