VIDEO: Suspect Arrested for Assassination Attempt on Former Japanese Prime Minister

The former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, is in critical condition, according to Japanese Prime Minister Kishida. International news outlets have reported that a former Japanese military man has been arrested in connection with the assassination attempt and has provided his first testimony. He stated that he was dissatisfied with Shinzo Abe's political stances, which led him to try to kill him.

The assailant is identified as 40-year-old Tetsuya Yamagami. Following the attack, the former Prime Minister lost consciousness. A representative from the local police reported that Abe was diagnosed with cardiac arrest, but no official information about his condition has been released yet. According to Kyodo news agency, the politician was injured in the neck and also experienced bleeding in the chest area.

Earlier in the morning, it was reported that an unidentified individual attempted to murder former Prime Minister Abe.
