In Which Film Will Johnny Depp Appear First After the Scandalous Trial?
Netflix has acquired the rights to screen a new film featuring Johnny Depp. This marks the actor's first leading role since 2020 and following his trial with ex-wife Amber Heard, reports Bloomberg, citing sources. The service will also fund the film's production.
The new film starring Depp is a historical drama titled La Favorite. The actor will portray King Louis XV, who ruled France from 1715 to 1774. Filming is set to take place in France. The film is expected to premiere in French cinemas in 2023, and it will be available on Netflix 15 months later.
The film will be directed by actress and director Maïwenn Le Besco (known for Polisse, My King, DNA), who will also play the role of Jeanne du Barry, the king's mistress.
This is Johnny Depp's first role after his trial with ex-wife Amber Heard. The last time Depp appeared in a feature film was in 2020 in the lead role of Andrew Levitas's film, The Minamata Disease.
