‘Armenia proposed to withdraw troops, but we refused’ - Bayramov

The date for the second meeting of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions has not yet been determined. Overall, the delimitation process will not be easy, stated Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

“The date for the next meeting of the border delimitation commission has still not been set,” Bayramov told reporters. According to him, the commission has managed to establish itself after a long and complicated process.

“Armenia proposed to take measures to de-escalate and withdraw troops and border guards from the border. But the Azerbaijani side refused this, as protecting its borders is Azerbaijan's constitutional right and obligation,” he noted.

He emphasized that Azerbaijan supports “a civil delimitation of borders based on various legal and historical documents.”

“There can certainly be differences of opinion, but the commission and its work are necessary to reach a common agreement,” added the Foreign Minister.

Bayramov also underlined that the delimitation of the border is generally a lengthy process, and considering the previous relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, “they believe that this process will not be easy.”
