17-Year-Old Girl Loses Leg After Shark Attack in Florida
In Florida, USA, a 17-year-old girl managed to escape a shark attack, but doctors were forced to amputate her leg, as reported by gazeta.ru and NBC News. The incident occurred on June 30 at Keaton Beach, located along the Gulf of Mexico.
Edison Bethe was attacked by a shark weighing just over 4 kg while swimming in water 1.5 meters deep. Noticing the unfolding situation, Bethe's brother rushed to help. He dived down and began to punch the shark until the predator swam away.
Bethe was given emergency assistance, but a part of her right leg above the knee was seriously injured. Doctors had no choice but to amputate the damaged section of the teenage girl's leg.
“This is the best scenario for Edison to return to as normal a life as possible,” said the victim's mother. Last weekend, two women died in shark attacks in the Hurghada area of southern Egypt.
