Pickpocketing on Bus Number 33: Cameras Installed but Not Activated
On July 4, a citizen approached 24News, reporting that a pickpocket stole his wallet from inside bus number 33 (license plate 4530 S). According to him, there was a camera installed on the bus, but police were unable to use any footage because the camera was not activated.
In response to the incident, Taron Gevorgyan, Deputy Head of the Public Relations Department of the Yerevan Municipality, stated in an interview with the media that a camera is indeed installed on bus number 33, but connections have not yet been provided to enable recording. The activation of the camera connections is planned to coincide with the installation of 100 dram coin boxes.
He explained, "The activation of the cameras and the installation of those boxes will be simultaneous, so we can monitor potential negative phenomena, including thefts, and also ensure that the money collected by drivers is properly accounted for. The same approach has been applied to Gazelle vans and other buses. I cannot provide specific timelines at the moment, because it depends not only on us but also on various procedures. However, we expect that our red buses will transition to this temporary alternative system until our main unified payment system is launched."
It is noteworthy that the incident occurred at the bus stop in front of the Noragavit Polyclinic.
