Details on Gunshots in Sevan: One Arrested

The Investigative Committee of Armenia, in collaboration with law enforcement officers, has revealed a case of apparent hooliganism involving the use of firearms by residents of Sevan city.

A report was received by the patrol unit of the Sevan Police Department on July 4, 2022, around 20:15, regarding gunfire and the presence of armed individuals near a gas station in the Gagarin neighborhood of Sevan.

As a result of urgent measures taken, several circumstances surrounding the incident were clarified, including the location, motive, and the identities of two individuals involved, who are 27 and 34 years old residents of Sevan.

According to preliminary information, a dispute occurred between these individuals in the yard of an apartment building in Sevan, which continued near the gas station in the Gagarin neighborhood, where they exchanged gunfire using their firearms.

Considering that the report from the Police contained a factual description of apparent crimes, a criminal investigation was initiated under Article 297, Part 3, and Article 335, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Through operational intelligence and search measures conducted by the Armenian police, one of the individuals involved, a 34-year-old man, was identified and arrested on suspicion of hooliganism involving the use of firearms and illegal possession, acquisition, transportation, and carrying of firearms.

Additionally, his vehicle, a "Range Rover" with gunshot damage, was discovered, along with approximately thirty bullet casings at the crime scene.

Forensic, ballistics, and chemical examinations have been ordered. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the incident, ensure an objective and comprehensive investigation, discover the other participants in the incident and the firearms used in the crime, and present them to the prosecutorial body. Instructions have been issued to the investigation body.
