Vardazaryan Reveals Why He Recorded Phone Conversation with Jhangiryan
The expectations surrounding the release of the secret recording have been justified. This was stated by former Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Ruben Vardazaryan during a broadcast on "Factinfo."
“Imagine, yes. My goal was not to force Jhangiryan’s resignation. By recording and releasing the tape, I aimed at one goal,” Vardazaryan said, commenting on the sensational recording that was made public and whether his expectations had been met afterward.
After the release of the recording, Gagik Jhangiryan confirmed during a public broadcast that the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council had been forced to resign, admitting that it was not an easy task to impose this resignation. Vardazaryan noted that while it is indeed not easy, from day one, he was familiar with the agenda but he did not resign.
“Using brute force, acting unlawfully, they reached my termination of powers without my resignation,” Vardazaryan stated, adding that he was offered to remain a judge, stay as a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, and resign from the chairmanship, which he also rejected. “I found that there is no person or mechanism in Armenia that can demand my resignation.”
Instead, it was Jhangiryan who resigned. “The judicial authority was saved from that brute force that was enforcing the order and ensuring that the order was carried out,” Vardazaryan responded.
According to Vardazaryan, the persecution against him, both from the Supreme Judicial Council and in terms of criminal prosecution, is political, and he will fight against it. “I will return to my work on principle; it is just a matter of time. For me, it is essential, even if just for one day, I will be restored, and one or two people will be punished for making clearly unjust decisions against me and not only against me,” Vardazaryan emphasized.
