What is the Mood in Berdzor? The Mayor Provides Details
“Right now, the situation in Berdzor is the same as it was a month or two ago. Azerbaijan is constructing a road, but the population continues to live in Berdzor without any panic or alarmist attitudes. As for the evacuation of people, there is no official order. People are living their normal lives here, and everyone knows what to do. I genuinely say there is no panic; people are preparing to live in Berdzor for a long time. We cannot say what will happen later. An alternative road connecting Artsakh to Armenia is being constructed, but when you see how intensively the Azerbaijanis are building that road, you think it’s very likely that this alternative corridor will shift there,” said Narek Aleksanyan, the mayor of Berdzor in an interview with Gala.
“The information claiming that Berdzor residents have been offered relocation to Hin Shen, Nor Shen, or other settlements in Artsakh or Armenia does not reflect reality. We have not received such an offer, nor is anything being done in that direction. I received information that allegedly the deadline is before July 1, and tomorrow or the day after is July 1, but we are here, and it’s not like we are planning to leave tomorrow or the day after. We have many concerns, particularly concerning the new road connecting Artsakh to Armenia and the alternative corridor. We do not know how safe that road or corridor will be, and if it is to be under the control of Russian peacekeepers, how effectively will that control be implemented,” the mayor emphasized.
