Russian Troops Leave Zmiinyi Island

The Russian Ministry of Defense has announced that Russian troops have left Zmiinyi Island. According to the statement, the Russian forces 'completed their tasks on Zmiinyi Island and, as a gesture of goodwill, withdrew the garrison stationed there.'

It is worth noting that Zmiinyi Island has been under the control of Russian troops for a considerable amount of time.

'Thus, the global community has been shown that the Russian Federation does not impede the United Nations' efforts to organize a humanitarian corridor for the export of agricultural products from Ukrainian territory,' the official Russian statement reads.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian side claims in their official message that after rocket strikes by the Ukrainian armed forces, the Russians 'quickly evacuated the remnants of the garrison on two fast boats.'

According to Ukrainian command, there is currently a fire on the island, and sounds of explosions are being heard.
