Aghvan Hovsepyan Undergoes Surgery

The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that Aghvan Hovsepyan, the former Chief Prosecutor, who is currently in custody, underwent surgery in early June. He had old issues related to his hearing, and the conditions of detention have exacerbated these problems. The surgery took place at Mikayelyan Hospital, and he is now in the post-operative recovery phase, which could be prolonged given the complexity of the surgery.

It is worth recalling that Aghvan Hovsepyan is accused of the following: from 2004 to 2013, while serving as the Chief Prosecutor, and from 2014 to 2018 as the Chairman of the Investigative Committee, he reportedly established business entities in close relations with Arshavir Sarkisyan, which he managed personally and through his sons. Moreover, he is accused of 'legalizing income received from illegal entrepreneurship.'

Another episode relates to the fact that in 2010, he allegedly induced the mayor of Byurakan in the Aragatsotn region, Hrachya Avagyan, to 'abuse his official powers,' resulting in the legalization of a large amount of property, specifically the Writers' Union building in Byurakan, which belongs to Aghvan Garnikich.

Most of the accusations are based on testimonies, and the attorneys are confident that the case will collapse in court. Hovsepyan has been in detention since September 2021.
