Why the Government is Rushing to Hold Early Elections: "Hraparak"
"Hraparak" newspaper writes: "Discussions are ongoing in government circles regarding the holding of early elections in Yerevan before the end of the year. Recently, we reported that a new legislative proposal has been put into circulation, allowing the council to make a decision on self-dissolution.
This urgency has several explanations: time is not on their side, they do not want to face another election where the opposition will have no preparation time. Furthermore, external processes, such as the signing of a peace treaty, cannot be delayed for long, and the signing of any document will reduce the government’s approval ratings. Although the government hopes that Tigran Avinyan is one of the candidates least associated with the ruling party, and his leadership of the Yerevan council list will decrease the likelihood of defeat."
