Pressure Was Applied to Pashinyan Regarding the Capture of Stepanakert: Aram Sargsyan

“I know that on November 6, there was a draft document ready that stated ‘the Meghri corridor’. The Armenian authorities did not sign it, and the issue reached up to November 9. There was also pressure that we will capture Stepanakert.

The Armenian authorities realized that it would be a death sentence for their heirs, so they did not sign it, and the vague 9th point was introduced instead. Nikol Pashinyan did not promise anything regarding the corridor; the promise concerning the corridor was given to Azerbaijan and Turkey by Vladimir Putin,” said Aram Sargsyan, the Chairman of the Republic Party, in an interview with A1+, discussing the 44-day war and subsequent developments.

He also added that Russia promised Azerbaijan a corridor but is unable to deliver because Armenia is opposing it. According to Aram Sargsyan, there was a prior agreement among Russia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan to start the war, but it did not include the capture of Hadrut and the crossing of the Araks River by Turkey to establish a permanent monitoring center. However, this occurred because today, Russia is unable to oppose Turkey.

Commenting on internal political issues, he noted that in Russian circles, former President Robert Kocharyan blames Serzh Sargsyan more for the defeat in the war than Nikol Pashinyan. Regarding the step taken by Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the Homeland Party, to resign his mandate, Aram Sargsyan stated that he has been “doubly betrayed.” First, the Russians did not provide the expected support, and then the “I Have Honor” bloc, of which Vanetsyan's party was a part.
