Russian Oil and Gasoline Tanker Denied Entry into the U.S.

The U.S. authorities have stopped an oil tanker that was heading from Russia to New Orleans, Louisiana. This was reported by the American newspaper Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the situation.

According to the publication, the tanker is owned by Greek company TMS Tankers Ltd and was chartered by Swiss-Dutch oil trader Vitol. The tanker, loaded with fuel oil and vacuum gas oil, left the port in the Taman Peninsula of the Black Sea at the beginning of June and was expected to arrive in New Orleans on Sunday.

According to sources from the newspaper and shipping data, U.S. authorities have not granted permission for the tanker to unload. One of the publication's contacts and a representative of the U.S. Coast Guard stated that the tanker is currently being inspected by U.S. border and customs officials.
