Pressure was exerted to take Stepanakert: Aram Sargsyan
"I know that on November 6, there was a prepared document stating 'Megerian corridor'. The Armenian authorities did not sign it, and the issue lasted until November 9. There was also pressure that we would take Stepanakert. The Armenian authorities realized that this would be a verdict for their heirs and did not sign, leading to the vague 9th point. Nikol Pashinyan did not promise anything about the corridor; the promise regarding the corridor was made to Azerbaijan and Turkey by Vladimir Putin," said Aram Sargsyan, the president of the Republic Party, in an interview with A1+ discussing the 44-day war and subsequent developments.
He also added that Russia promised Azerbaijan a corridor but cannot provide it because Armenia is opposing. According to Aram Sargsyan, there was a prior agreement between Russia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan to start the war, but it did not include the capture of Hadrut and the crossing of the Araks River by Turkey and the establishment of a monitoring center. However, it happened because today Russia cannot oppose Turkey.
Regarding domestic political issues, he stated that in Russian circles, former president Robert Kocharian blames Serzh Sargsyan more for the defeat in the war than Nikol Pashinyan.
Speaking about the decision of Arthur Vanyan, the leader of the Homeland party, to resign from his mandate, Aram Sargsyan remarked that he has been "double-crossed". First, the Russians did not provide the expected support, and then the 'Honorable' bloc, of which Vanyan's party was a member, failed him.
