122 casualties in a powerful earthquake in Afghanistan

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 struck Afghanistan, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). The tremors were recorded during the night of June 22. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 44 kilometers southwest of the city of Khost, at a depth of 51 kilometers.

In the southeastern provinces of Paktika and Khost, at least 120 people have died as a result of the earthquake. Elias Nasirin, head of the Red Crescent’s Southwest Region, reported to RIA Novosti that “according to preliminary information, 100 people have been killed in the Giyan area of Paktika, while 20 bodies have been recovered from the village of Dubai in the Spera district of Khost province. Our teams have arrived in the Giyan area.”
