Turkey Could Create Difficulties for Washington: Bloomberg
The United States needs to prepare to confront Turkey, as this country may create difficulties for Washington. This is stated by American journalist Bobby Ghosh in a column for Bloomberg.
According to the author, the ongoing economic crisis in Turkey pushes the country towards confrontation with the West. In this situation, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be forced to blame external forces for the events, particularly Europe and the United States.
“He has already started to intensify his rhetoric against the U.S. and Europe. Last week, during a carefully planned meeting with young Turks, he labeled the West as deceitful and unreliable. Burdened by the dual pressures of inflation and currency devaluation, Turks will be forced to blame the U.S. and Europe, rather than their president,” writes Ghosh.
The author notes that Turkey has already embarked on a path of confrontation with the West, recalling Ankara's rejection of NATO’s expansion in the Scandinavian peninsula, as well as the Turkish-Greek conflict in the Aegean Sea.
“The United States and Europe should prepare for Erdoğan to throw more mud and resist,” Ghosh concluded.
