The Status of Artsakh Should Be Determined by Its Indigenous People, the Armenians: Artak Beglaryan
Official Stepanakert has stated immediately after the 44-day war in Artsakh that the question of the status of Artsakh is a very fundamental and vital issue for us. This viewpoint was expressed by Artak Beglaryan, the State Minister of the Republic of Artsakh, in an interview with Armenia Today.
According to the Artsakh official, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved through the irrefutable and unconditional realization and recognition of the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh, which means that the status of Artsakh should be determined by the indigenous people, the Armenians.
“We have, of course, made our decision, but we are ready to go to the end with the involvement of our international partners and their mediation to resolve the issue peacefully. The status of Artsakh is our paramount goal because it is the main guarantee of our long-term security and the assurance of our rights. This is the path we have chosen; we decide our own path,” said the state minister, emphasizing that the people of Artsakh will never give up on the issue of status.
Artak Beglaryan is confident that the Armenian people will also not abandon the question of the status of Artsakh. He highlighted the “red lines” of Artsakh, stating that it cannot simply be part of Azerbaijan. The State Minister of Artsakh expressed certain concerns regarding various statements made by Armenian officials regarding Artsakh, but noted that in international law, the principles of the self-determination of peoples and the territorial integrity of countries do not contradict each other.
