French Foreign Ministry Reports Consensus on Granting Ukraine EU Candidate Status
The EU countries have reached a complete consensus on the issue of granting Ukraine candidate status for European Union membership. Clément Beaune, the French Minister Delegate for European Affairs, announced this during a press conference, according to RIA Novosti.
"We have discussed the preparatory work for the EU summit scheduled for June 23-24, which will focus on granting Ukraine EU candidate status. We discussed this issue today, and these discussions showed that there is a significant consensus; I would even say a complete consensus to move forward on this issue," Beaune stated.
Earlier, the European Commission proposed granting candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. At the same time, the Commission has called for recognition of Georgia's European aspirations, but has not yet granted candidate status. The decision will be made by EU leaders on June 23-24.
