Merkel as Mediator: Former Chancellor Speaks on Russia-Ukraine Negotiations
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stated that she could take on a mediator role in future negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, according to gazeta.ru.
When asked if she was prepared to take on such a role now, Merkel noted that this is not currently under discussion.
Merkel also recalled that shortly before stepping down from office, she had tried to find a resolution to the Ukrainian crisis but was unable to do so.
Moreover, she did not rule out that her departure from office, the elections in France, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, and the so-called stagnation in the implementation of the Minsk agreements might have contributed to the Russian military actions in Ukraine.
