Without Tolstoy and Pushkin: Works of Certain Russian and Soviet Authors Removed from Ukrainian Schools

Works by Russian and Soviet authors will be removed from the educational curriculum of Ukrainian schools. This information is reported by УНИАН, referencing the corresponding decision from the working group updating the curriculum for grades 9-11 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

It is noted that Ukrainian students will not study the works of Pushkin, Tolstoy, Yesenin, and Dostoevsky, while the works of Nikolai Gogol have been recommended to be transferred to the section on Ukrainian literature.

In total, more than 40 works by Russian and Soviet authors will be banned (including those by Akhmatova, Mandelstam, Pasternak, and Mayakovsky). The removed works will be replaced with classical world literature.

Experts justify the decision by discussing the appropriateness of studying Russian culture and literature in the context of the Russo-Ukrainian war.
