16 Journalists Arrested in Turkey

On June 8, Turkish law enforcement raided the homes of numerous journalists and media offices in Diyarbakır, detaining 20 journalists. Of these, 16 were arrested.

The Turkish authorities continue their crackdown on freedom of speech by prosecuting representatives of opposition media.

Colleagues of the detained journalists and their relatives have been protesting outside the courthouse, chanting slogans such as 'Free press cannot be silenced' and 'By resisting, we will win.'
