Symbolic Sit-in Planned for Today, Says Manukyan

Gegam Manukyan, a member of the National Assembly from the "Armenia" faction, announced in a Facebook live stream that a symbolic sit-in is scheduled for today at 19:00 in Freedom Square.

“In 1988, the students of Armenia held a sit-in during these days for several weeks, demanding the Supreme Council of Armenia to convene and accept the application from the regional council of Artsakh to recognize Artsakh as an autonomous region within Armenia. On this very day, June 15, there was incredible joy and delight, because under the pressure of the students’ struggle, the Supreme Council made that historic decision,” said Manukyan.

He mentioned that his suggestion to meet and hold a symbolic sit-in today was accepted by many of those who participated in the original sit-in at that time. Manukyan invited citizens, as well as the students who participated in the sit-in back then, to join today’s symbolic sit-in.
