"What else will they close, what have they achieved with this?" MP does not rule out that the tents will be removed
In a conversation with journalists today in the National Assembly, MP Armen Khachatryan from the ruling party assured that the actions of the police against the demonstrators were not only lawful but also exhibited excessive tolerance in certain areas.
"In conditions of mass riots, the police were obliged to apply special measures, and this was the lightest among the special measures that could have been applied at that moment. To assess the police's actions, let us not look at this one episode, but go back a month, a month and a half. For a month and a half, the police have been ensuring public order under heavy loads and no special measures have been applied, not even special defensive measures such as helmets and rubber truncheons," he stated.
According to Armen Khachatryan, if after all this there are mass disturbances, it means that the actions of the police did not prevent them, and the matter has reached mass riots, thus it was necessary to tighten the measures, which has been done.
Regarding the topic of revoking mandates from opposition MPs, Armen Khachatryan said that they are discussing this issue in various formats. When reminded that Prime Minister Pashinyan also did not attend National Assembly sessions during the revolution days, Armen Khachatryan stated that the opposition can hold demonstrations, but they should not turn into mass riots.
"We are currently under strong pressure from citizens to regulate traffic and these inconveniences should not be borne by the citizens. At all meetings with citizens, the first question is to regulate traffic," he noted.
When asked if a decision might be made to remove the tents, he did not rule it out.
"Why aren’t they going to Opera Square? If the goal is to distort traffic and create greater discomfort for citizens, then they should be removed," he added.
Armen Khachatryan stated that there is no political crisis, the National Assembly is functioning normally, and he raised several questions. "As a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, I also have the question: so what next, what else are they going to close, how long will they stay, what have they achieved with this?"
