Why the Governor of Syunik is Not Accepted Within the Civil Contract
The newspaper 'Hayots Ashkhar' reports that the Governor of Syunik, Robert Ghukasyan, will hold a press conference today on the occasion of his 100th day in office. Sources from the newspaper indicate that the newly appointed governor is not particularly accepted within the ruling 'Civil Contract' party.
Our sources close to the Civil Contract report that the party's Syunik wing cannot understand how someone from the village of Kalavan in Jambarak could have been brought in to lead such an important province.
'The entire governor's office has been filled with his favorite people. It was incomprehensible and unacceptable when he appointed journalist Nare Ghazaryan as his deputy. Ghazaryan was one of the active critics of Prime Minister Pashinyan and participated in all opposition marches and rallies,' said our interlocutor. Although the governor managed to convince Pashinyan to appoint Ghazaryan as deputy governor, the Civil Contract's Syunik activists are still struggling to accept this appointment.
According to our information, members of the Civil Contract are preparing to initiate an intra-party petition not only against Ghazaryan but also against Governor Ghukasyan.
In an interview with 'Hayots Ashkhar', Governor Robert Ghukasyan addressed Ghazaryan's appointment and the concerns of the party members, stating, 'There is no such thing; only narrow circles discuss this way, but in reality, this is not the case. As for the work of the governor’s office, we have a large staff, and we can ask anyone, and they will say that the governor's office has never been this harmonious.'
However, our interlocutor says that the Civil Contract members are considering the candidacy of National Assembly member Davit Danielyan for the position of Governor of Syunik, who has close ties with Defense Minister Suren Papikyan and Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan. However, he is a defeated candidate, having suffered a humiliating defeat in Kapan against the current community leader.
